This article focuses on how the map works in battle. To see the article focused on actual map zones see the Map.

So there is a map, what’s up with that?

The current map you see if meant to be a simplistic representation of the current known lands of Arcadia. The squares do not represent the areas exact size but more of its importance in the course of the war. For example, the Desert (which is only one square) is huge and sprawling, taking up far more acreage then Celestial Tower (which is two squares). But I’d say that the headquarters of one of the teams is a bit more politically viable then a vast expanse of sand. In other words, when you look at the mass of squares stacked together, try to use your imagination.

Why aren't the zone descriptions more detailed, what am I supposed to start with?

That was done in an attempt to give everyone as much freedom as they wanted in their match-ups. Let’s take the Highway zone for example. Now, it’s up to you to determine what that means to you. Does it mean you’re fighting your opponent while you both ride the back of 18-wheelers? Does that mean it’s a frogger-like contest to see who can cross the road? Does that mean it’s an abandoned part of the highway full of happy little construction equipment? It’s entirely up to you. The same goes for continuity. If someone drew a certain zone in their own style, that doesn’t mean you can’t do up your own adaptation of it the very next round.

So how do I know where I can attack?

Legal attack zones are defined as zones directly adjacent to a zone owned by your team. There is no limit to the amount of attacks you can launch from one location. Meaning that there are six viable attack locations from one zone. Gray zones are neutral and can be treated as your territory during the attack phase, BUT only if another member of your team attacks the neutral area as well. Before each round, administration will put together a new map showing where each viable attack location is and post it, as well as listing the zones, in the Registration (see this link for current registration, if applicable) for the next round.
